Within 6 months my life did a complete 180. A new job, new boyfriend, new apartment, new area code, and a new load of stress. Life really does come at you fast, so how do we keep up? Stress is a part of life, so here are my favorite tips on how to deal.
Adopt a Grateful Mindset
“prayer is heart’s ease to a grateful soul”
The best way to deal with stress is to adopt a grateful mindset. There’s so much to be enjoyed in the present, but it really does depend on your perspective. Learn to say thank you to your inconveniences, find the silver lining even when its dark and cloudy and you have no idea what’s coming. Celebrate the small things, communicate what you’re grateful for. Becoming open, positive, and excited for new and scary things will change everything. Life is full of stress, but it’s also full of wonderful opportunities that a lot of us miss because we’re focused on small things that really don’t matter. Change your thought patterns to be gracious and you’ll start seeing things fall into place.
We are creatures of habit. Change is scary and hard. But most change in our lives — we can’t control. Things become a lot easier to deal with when you let go of the reigns and flow with whatever direction it’s taking you. Be open and willing to deal with whatever uncertainty there may be, and find opportunity where others may see failure. Having a grateful mindset helps when you need to be flexible, too.
Nurture Your Hobbies
This is the perfect time to dive into what makes you happy. What hobbies make you feel like you? That you enjoy? That takes your mind away from the chaos around you? Do that. and do it as often as you need to. Do something creative, something that you are passionate about, or something that really gets you excited. My favorite hobbies that I find really help me feel fulfilled are reading/writing, getting creative with makeup/fashion/beauty, or any form of exercise. When I make time for the things I love, I am able to find more pleasure in my life. Fun tip: the more active your hobby is, the better. We love endorphins 😉
Give Yourself Time
You need to give yourself time to process things and relax. The idea is to give your body, mind, and heart a chance to relax and recharge. If you keep going at full speed every day, it can be really hard on you, both physically and mentally. We were not designed to go 24/7/365. Be mindful of how you feel. Be nice to yourself and realize that you are a human being and you can only do so much at a time. Learn to say no when you need “me” time. Just because you have physical time in the day doesn’t mean you have time to give more than you have of yourself.
You are the most important person in the world and you can’t pour from an empty cup. Put your cup down every day and spend time with you.
